But I can’t really think of anything. Still wrestling with this damn book.
Start rehearsing with Mr Ferry next week, show for the BBC on saturday, then holiday, then Ferry tour, then hopefully I can write something more interesting for ‘you lot’

Well I can’t think of a comment then 😉
What is the show that you are doing for the beeb?
Have a great holiday!

Writer’s block sucks (experience talking here, yup). Good luck getting past it.
And no fair! Nate stole my question! (Must mock him on-air again…) 🙂
I just turned on the Soccer Channel (don’t lookit me, I didn’t name it) and the Gunners are playing against Bolton in an older match… and I might have to start watching this… the announcers are hilarious. US announcers would get sacked for these guys’ language!
Looking forward to ze book, ze tour, and whatever else y’choose to offer us,
‘Nix.
Phoenix - February 3, 2007 10:09 AM
Oh, now I understand… the show was called ‘Fan Zone’, and apparently , it’s a broadcast where they allow two fans to do the announcing of a specific match.
That explains why one of them was singing the lyrics to The Time Warp. 🙂
Weird, but they were funny. 🙂
‘Nix.
Nate - February 3, 2007 11:21 AM
If I get ‘mocked’ on air but I don’t hear it, does it still count? 😉

I like the heat, which apparently we’re going to see a lot more of if we don’t change our ways, but I do love to ski, although badly.

I’m now left with the mental picture of a man wearing indigo lingerie sliding down the side of a mountain clutching a bass guitar.
Thanks Guy 🙂

I nearly snorted soda out my nose when I read that, Lorraine. 🙂

A tip, try changing the font colour you are using, it can trigger the brain to flow again.

Renee…11 degrees farenheit here, thanks for the reminder 🙁
Guy, it’s good to know you are still here. We were getting worried that Mr. Ferry had you tied up in some rehearsal studio somewhere.

Couldn’t figure how to send mail straight to you so decided to try this. Just found your site and I am very curious about TOY MATINEE. It’s probably old news to this site but I couldn’t find anything here about it. Have been listening to the record for years and have always admired the bass playing. What was your involvement anyway. What bass did you play? I have a ’73 jazz I bought new. Gotta go.

Guy Pratt - February 8, 2007 12:06 PM
You can order the book on Amazon, it’s called My Bass and other animals.
Toy Matinée I was deeply involved in from the word go.
I played bass and co-wrote a couple of the songs. It’s in the music section here.
I played Betsy my 64 Jazz, a Spector NS2, Status Fretless, Musicman Stingray and a Kramer 5 string stereo bass on it.
Cheers
Guy

Hey Sir,
Earlier you asked for feedback about your web site.
A suggestion, how about a separate tag for your book.
Book name, when out, where to get, etc etc.
Karen.
Phoenix - February 8, 2007 8:47 PM
Just a mild note here… the book is not listed on Amazon.com (yet), but on Amazon.co.uk.
And is preordered. 🙂 I’ll probably bundle it with other things only available there to save on that nastybad transatlantic shipping costs.
‘Nix.
Guy Pratt - February 9, 2007 11:39 AM
Once I have artwork etc then I’ll be plugging the book, don’t you worry…
Simon J - February 9, 2007 6:18 PM
I’ve just had the worst day from hell. 7 ruddy hours getting back from Cardiff to Swansea. All this snow. No Buses, No Trains, No Taxi’s.
However, the force will show me the way!
Hows it going people? I’ve had hell of a lot of trouble accessing the Blog on this site, and I tried it today and.….…VOILA! So just here to say hey.
Let’s hope England lose in Rugby this week, and COME ON WALES!!
Cheers,
A Worked Up Simon J!
Phoenix - February 10, 2007 1:23 AM
Simon J, my friend, be glad you don’t live in upstate NY. They got 100 inches of snow. Yes, eight /feet/ of the stuff. 🙂
And what do the Gooners in the crowd think of the news about Arsenal partnering up with the Colorado Rapids MLS team? It’s not a takeover like Liverpool’s was. Just idly curious.
‘Nix.

Hey Guy:
Mike the hack bass player here.
So glad to see you blogging. Been a fan since TOY MATINEE. I’ve enjoyed that album so much that I bought the three different versions, the original release, the special edition, and the audio DVD. I got luck and found the rare Icehouse M for M CD about ten years ago, and was quite surprised and happy you were on that album (love the bass on Spanish Gold and Mr. Big), and now that I’ve read your other credits, I find I have alot more GP bass work / song crafting in my CD collection than I realized (hadn’t a clue you did the Orb stuff too). I should probably just categorize my entire CD collection based on bass players, so that I would have stacks for you, Tony Levin, Mike Picarro, Larry Klein, Sting, Mr. McCartney, Geddy and Nick Seymore.… but then how would I handle favorite drummers?
Uh, Oh. I’m rambling…
Anyway, I want to thank you for your work and am glad to find your blog.
Mike a.k.a. Sonicfrog.
PS. Did you play with Gilmore on “Later… with Jools Holland”? I happened to catch the show last nigh, on the same night I found your blog. Coincidence or fate?
PPS. I was wondering if it would be OK to include you on my blogroll?
PPPS. I just read my over-long comment and realize I come off as a stalker. But don’t worry. I won’t be donning diapers, mace, and a meat tenderizer, and drive from the states to England to stalk you. I’m far too lazy and that would require way, way too much effort. Plus, I don’t have a car that can drive across the Atlantic. 🙂
Oh, Fresno, CA. 53* and rainy.
Renee B. - February 10, 2007 9:19 PM
Okay I had to comment.….. on the above one. It is spelled Gilmour not Gilmore. Please homie don’t make me drive up to Fresno. LOL Anywho, Simon don’t fret to much on the weather, if I could I would give you some of Sunny Califronia weather. .
Guy have a nice weekend.
Cheers,
Renee B.

Hi Guy,
Just watched the Roxy Music BBC1 session which was very good!.
Did that young man on guitar steal the show?.……YES
Thomas O'Connell - February 24, 2007 12:37 PM
Guy, I was wondering how you felt about playing the upright bass. I have been into the blues since 1967 and we always used the upright bass when we played. The sound is so much greater and not just for the blues, but also when we would play a jazz tune. Oh! how it sounded. I know that you have alot going on, But if you get a chance? Please let me know what your thoughts are on this question. Thom
PS. If you do own a upright please let me know what make and model you have. Again thank you and I hope that you’ll have a good Weekend

I played upright on the Gilmour tour, a Framus from the 50’s I’ve had for years. I absolutely loved it, so much I went out and got a Ned Steinberger as well..
Cheers
