In their infinite wisdom Planet Rock have decided to move me to the decidedly more sociable time of 7pm on Sunday..Listen if you dare, or care, or whatever..

That’s great!
You will suit the Sunday evening I feel 🙂
Thomas Robinson - April 2, 2008 4:24 PM
That’s great news. When does this take effect? Will the next show be on Friday or Sunday? At last i’ll be able to e‑mail in to the show. You probably won’t want to read my emails but at least i’ll be able to send em in 😆
Phoenix - April 2, 2008 5:42 PM
Curse Planet Rock for making me have to choose between a proper dose of sleeping in on my day off or my favorite DJ!
Oh well, I can get a leg up on my day’s worth of World of Warcraft gaming.
Fantastic news!! I might be able to actually listen to the show when it’s live more now than I was when it was on Friday nights…Sunday afternoons work out a whole lot better for me than early Friday evenings.
As Thomas asked, when will this schedule change start? This week or next?
- Caroline
Phoenix - April 2, 2008 6:00 PM
I presume this week, Thomas, Caroline, since it’s already listed that way on their schedule…?
I’ll still of course keep an ear out the previous time just in case.
Well, well, well…there it is indeed! Thanks Nix. 🙂 I never know when to take a peek at Planet Rock’s site ’cause they seem to be funny about updating parts of it…*cough*Guy’s presenter page*cough*, as we know from the “My Hometown” segment (And “Best and Worst Jobs” too? Just realize that there has hardly been any entries for that lately…) trying to be defunct…
Thomas Robinson - April 2, 2008 6:40 PM
Carrying on from Caroline, i take it that if you want to submit a bank of pratt request we just send you an e‑mail? There isn’t yet a specific bit on the website for it. To be fair to planet rock, they are probably busy with potential takeovers at the minute. What this change does mean is that i’ll have to tape top gear when it comes back later in the year. Talking of which i saw the clip from top gear that Guy was in, and at one point you actually said that the car engine carry a tune better than most popstars. Did you use the ticket to see the show being filmed? You should be one of the stars in a reasonably priced car.
Karen - April 3, 2008 12:07 AM
7pm on Sunday, that’s 4am Monday in Sydney, that’s not a more sociable time.
Suppose I can take up World of Warcraft to maybe try to stay up till that time.
Rafal - April 4, 2008 4:43 PM
Guy, are you going to play with Bryan Ferry in Poland (Cracow Screen Festival, 4th May 2008)? Any chance for your own little show? 🙂
Elina - April 7, 2008 12:25 AM
guy: when are you going to como to Argentina???
i love you since i was 13 years old (now i am 31)
I was going to ask you to come to Belfast or Larne but i think i might need to join the que.
Karen - April 10, 2008 6:17 AM
quick question – was mr pratt’s show on last Sunday night ?
nothing has been posted on Planet Rock web site yet.
Phoenix - April 10, 2008 7:20 AM
Yep, it aired as promised, devoid of any references to World of Warcraft, boo. I seem to remember it taking a few days the last time I wanted to re-listen to one of the episodes (guess which one? 😀 ) for it to be posted.
Ironically, the actual media player said it was to be a Jethro Tull special on, but it really was himself.
Accept no substitutes!
Nix.
Thomas Robinson - April 10, 2008 2:41 PM
It just doesn’t seem the same listening to Guy on a sunday. After all those friday nights spent sitting in bed listening to the radio until 1 in the morning it feels wierd to now be doing it on a sunday evening. It will be even stranger when Top Gear starts again.
It was still a great show though and i was able to e‑mail in whilst Guy was in the studio for the first time. I think i clogged his email up a bit to be honest, i got a bit carried away. Sorry about that Guy, i’ll make sure i don’t do it again next time.
Karen - April 11, 2008 6:58 AM
Mr Pratt, just listened to your show from Sunday. The last few minutes were cut off.
However did I hear correctly, did you say ‘ strewth ‘ ?
Thomas Robinson - April 14, 2008 5:18 PM
Another great show Guy. It didn’t feel as strange listening to the show on a sunday as it did the week before. There can’t be many radio shows that suit both friday nights and sunday evenings!
I nearly died of shock when you read my email out. It wasn’t quite as shocking as the PULSE mirrorball but it was close, although fortunatly neither shock proved fatal.
I was also pleasantly surprised when you played the stranglers. I was actually telling a friend on saturday that my only complaint about Planet Rock was that it played too much extremely-heavy metal and not enough stranglers but you must have heard me!
What was with the stiggy-stig thing? The wolf and moon in your head thing was a bit strange. What accent were you trying to do?
Thomas
Phoenix - April 14, 2008 9:27 PM
Probably a Top Gear reference. I originally thought it was a reference to This is Spinal Tap, thus proving it’s been /far/ too long since I’ve seen that particular film.
However, to actually get back to the original topic of the post, I have to say Planet Rock’s timing on the schedule switch could not have been more perfect. Normally, I’d be at work, doing overtime during the old timeslot. A little bit difficult to listen and work at the same time, but it was okay, always great to have a personal laptop at the salt mines to help keep in touch with friends (and occasionally play World of Warcraft when it got slow or boring). Then a couple of dingbats just happened to get caught surfing… shall we say… ‘inappropriate’… websites by some VIP who then complained to our manager, who then banned personal laptops in the office. So now, no more streaming audio for me at work. And no World of Warcraft.
But I have an iPhone now, so I can still read this thing and keep in touch with my mates. And just to be a geek, I had the phone log into my laptop at home and had the laptop log into WoW. 😉 Can’t properly play it, but yeah. 🙂
Thomas Robinson - April 14, 2008 9:41 PM
I thought it might be a top gear reference too but i couldn’t work out the accent. I did a bit of googling and it might have been Stig Anderson, ABBA’s old manager that Guy was pretending to be, it would at least account for the accent.
I like Mindwolf too…if such a band existed, they could beat up on ABBA* and Europe** any day of the week, month, and year!
There ought to be a ‘my band is better than your band’ sort of TV show…if there can be a ‘my dad is better than your dad’ show (at least here in the States…and I nearly groaned when I happened upon it one evening not long ago) on the telly, then there should definitely be such a thing for bands/artists.
Anyway, I three am really enjoying the new timeslot…nothing goes better with Sunday afternoons, green tea, Doritos, and strawberry Newtons (forever!) like your show, Guy. That said, I was working on my Randall and Hopkirk site as this week’s show began…and there was quite a coinkydink: You played “The Jean Genie” as I was working on getting my Annette Andre autograph pics uploaded and set up on their page. Needless to say, I couldn’t help letting out a nice little chuckle when I realized what was going on…about a minute or two into the song.
I’ve rambled on enough as it is, but I have to also chime in with Thomas and say that getting to hear the Stranglers was too awesome.
- Caroline
* — At the risk of getting killed here, I have to admit that I can’t help actually liking ABBA’s “Eagle”…the closest to ‘progressive rock’ they ever got to being. Well, I can’t help liking that and “SOS”…and now I got the latter stuck in my head again. Bang goes any chance of getting any sleep now…
** — Yeah, I know…Europe is/was a Norweigian band. But hey, Norway is part of Scandinavia, and what better band to be in a ‘beat up’ deal with Mindwolf than the ones behind “The Final Countdown”?
Great, now I got a mashup of that and “SOS” meandering through my poor mind…arrrrrrgggghh!!
Correction: Europe is/was Swedish. I just remembered that…grrr, arrrrgh.
(sighs) That’s what I get for responding to this thing at four in the morning.
Thomas Robinson - April 15, 2008 4:42 PM
The stig stiggson appearance was good, it was just a bit of a surprise! As for the names Jeremy Clarkson has previously refered to the Stig as stig stiggson and mindwolf is a marvel comicbook superhero according to google (i’d like to point out that i’m not a comicbook expert). Maybe when Guy got the ticket to see Top Gear being filmed he met the man behind the mask? We saw Jeremy, James and Richard playing on the ToTP special, maybe the Stig is planning an album too? Or maybe Guy is the Stig?
But whatever the answers, thanks Guy for both the radio show and expanding my musical horizons (or at least they would have been expanded had Mindwolf had some material of any kind available )
And Caroline, not everything ABBA did was bland euro-pop, some of the stuff on their albums wasn’t too bad actually. It’s just their singles that you probably shouldn’t admit to liking!
Karen - April 16, 2008 8:23 AM
Why does it take sooooo long for Guy’s show to be posted ?
And why do other shows seem to have week’s worth ?
Guy, I think you are funny, but enough to get me up at 4am.
You may want to look under “Jethro Tull Special”, if there is such an entry on the player, this time around again, Karen…when Guy’s show was on this past Sunday, the player flashed “JTS” as the show then on for the timeslot again. *sighs*
Thomas, I certainly don’t disagree about ABBA being not completely being Euro-Pop…“Eagle” is a GREAT song. And I would have never known about it if it hadn’t been for my reading this site’s ABBA page one evening almost seven or so years ago. “Eagle” is every bit as enthralling, at least to me, as it is to the author of that site…to this day, I can’t get over how majestic/mystical it sounds AND that such a song comes from ABBA, of all outfits.
“Eagle” was one of the five best music collection decisions I’ve ever made based on that site…the other four being Genesis’ “Selling England By The Pound”, Roxy Music’s “For Your Pleasure”, Can’s “Soundtracks”, and King Crimson’s “Absent Lovers: Live In Montréal 1984”.
Thomas Robinson - April 21, 2008 8:31 PM
Hi Guy,
I think you should definitely play more Frank Zappa, like the Stranglers I think he is under-represented on Planet Rock except for on your show. Which reminds me, thanks for playing the Stranglers again. Two tracks in two weeks, i don’t think i’ve ever heard them on the radio so much!
Cheers,
Thomas
(Oh and i was only kidding when i emailed asking for an autograph Guy.)
Phoenix - April 21, 2008 10:20 PM
I liked the new show as well, but was kinda miffed they never posted last week’s show on the listen again feature… Good thing the hotel had halfway decent free wireless at PenguiCon or I would have /really/ been miffed to have missed one entirely. Any idea if they’re gonna post any more ‘episodes’?
Nix
Karen - April 22, 2008 12:36 AM
I have been having a bit of a chat with someone from Planet Rock, re: lack of posting Guy’s show, ( he’s probably so getting over me ) but will let you know what happens.
Hearing the Stranglers and Frank Zappa has been quite a treat to me as well…I had never ever heard any of the Stranglers’ songs until Guy started playing them! Always nice to know of more songs to add to my ever growing, and ecelectic digital music repertoire…
As for Zappa…“Overnite Sensation” was indeed an awesome album, and I remember getting a copy of that for “Camarillo Brillo” like it was yesterday. As a matter of fact, I’d cite “Camarillo” as quite possibly my most favorite Zappa song, when “Don’t Eat The Yellow Snow”, “You Are What You Is”, “Fine Girl”, and “Valley Girl” aren’t doing their best to rival it.
I three hope that something gets done about getting ‘episodes’ up soon on the Planet Rock archive player…I was a little worried when I saw that for the third week in a row, the show was listed as “Jethro Tull Special” as it played… *sighs*
- Caroline
Phoenix - April 22, 2008 6:34 PM
I pulled out the headphone plug and let ‘my people’ listen to Don’t Eat the Yellow Snow… it suits that crowd very well. I have a feeling someone will be spinning it on my station at some point in the near future.
Thomas Robinson - April 22, 2008 7:51 PM
I’ve just checked and Guy’s show from Sunday has been put on the listen again feature at long last!
I think that Frank Zappa’s best song is Muffin Man. The guitar work is amazing and on the version i have Frank actually has to repeat part of the opening dialogue because he starts laughing himself. Didn’t he record about 50 albums before he dies, making him the most recorded musician ever?
Karen - April 23, 2008 12:02 AM
Fixed, response from Planet Rock
Hi Karen
You’re quite right. I have rectified this now. Due to music rights I can only send you a link to Sunday’s show just gone (20th April)
which will be active until Sunday 27th April to listen to either on the player or on this link below:

I just made him up and I like him, don’t you?

I really like the name Mindwolf, Guy. Sounds like a name one of my geek friends would use for gaming purposes… or a character from a comic book.
And it’s four points off for misuse of punctuation. No need for multiple question marks unless one is Doctor Who. 😉
